Days are lengthening nights are shortening

Days are lengthening nights are shortening, I want to believe this even if I don’t see it, the first froze of the year woke us up this morning, icicles clinging on tips of fingers made out of grass, I see how wan the light is, the rain comes and comes, the wind picks up, the air gets colder the sun comes up, Christmas came, family gathered, presents were exchanged, stories told, friends visited, the house lighted up, it felt warm and wonderful, I cooked and cooked some more, mixed herbs baked goods, cleaned, sung old songs, spread out the magical shroud of love for everyone to come together under its spell… left nothing out for us to miss or seek; bound together by special moments in time and affections around the Child born in Bethlehem, people came people went, we shared our lives, we danced, we laughed, we embraced and said our goodbyes…  how the sun stretches further into the evening, and how the trees outside my window are bending down; stretching out thin arms as the little birds come and peck on goods, the days are lengthening nights are shortening, and I wait… I await a new day, a new sun, a new year, a new life a new earth…

The merry year is born
Like the bright berry from the naked thorn.

Merry Christmas!!

"Happy, happy Christmas,
that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days;
that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth;
that can transport the sailor and the traveller,
thousands of miles away,
back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!"
~Charles Dickens

And to you my friends... my warmest and the best of wishes for a blessed Christmas!

My sincere thanks for your friendship and goodwill throughout the year…

From our little white cottage in the woods to yours…

A coffee nook

I am a morning coffee gal… which means, according to my own little life’s dictionary, that mornings cannot be any more magical or glorious or lovelier than when I start with coffee… coffee to warm my body and melt my soul.  Now, there’s true magic in this imagery, doesn’t it! ;)

My husband and I love coffee… coffee shared in the early morning.  We have our standard drip coffee maker, a percolator, a Keurig for our gourmet coffee, tea, hot cocoa and iced beverages, our stovetop espresso maker and espresso and cappuccino machine for the perfect 'coladas'… so when we bought our little white cottage, the very first thing I though of as far as home projects go, was to build a coffee station with all the cups and supplies stored right there.

We chose a perfect little nook for it, just by the open shelves where I keep all of our everyday white dishes.

We brought this little chest of drawers from the house in the roses. It had gone through quite a metamorphosis as you can see here… from a soft pink, to a darker shade of pink to a two-tone green...

Never planned on using it in my new kitchen then, but it was just the perfect fix for my small cottage kitchen and perfect too with my palette of teals...  It  just needed some pretty pulls for perfection...

I later found this really great shelf with drawers for an awesome price at The Christmas Tree Shop.  I new instantly it would be perfect here.

Things are stored in the cupboards… sugar, sweetener, tea bags, coffee and the all the important things for our lattes!

Cups and spoons should live close to our kettles and espresso machine, don't you agree?

The same applies to the inside of the drawers of the little chest…

I keep improving things...
The cutest of mugs to choose from...

Coffee Shop open 24 hours

Then I decided to embellish my coffee/sugar containers with some pretty labels that I downloaded from the Internet and glued onto the jars using Mod Podge.

Finally I made this pretty table topper with a one yard fabric from Walmart that match perfectly with the colors of the kitchen...

So, here it is in all it's glory… my new coffee bar.  I love it.
I love the height it adds to this side of my kitchen,
and I love the vintage look of the shelf.

 Peace, love & COFFEE

And I love my coffees!

Some photos

Those late afternoon wintery hours—twilight...

My little world turns cotton candy pink... something magical holds the atmosphere in its bosom as the sun, before its terminus, descends behind the horizon in the west.  And you look around you, grasping the moment with the tip of your soul… something wonderful all around you; something present and waiting patiently to be revealed... but whatever that something is, it has yet to expose itself in the afterglow.  Perhaps the truth is that we simply don't have the eyes to see it, or the ears to hear it or the soul to comprehend what is right in front of us... being held out in offering?

Then in the cottage...
Arroz con leche to warm you on cold night...

Remembrances of roses...
from the garden

Collected at the end of October...

Christmas waves a magic wand over our little cottage...

Life at home...
absolute joy

A lovely vintage paper wreath – a gift from my friend Nancy

I’m so thankful I decided to keep the holly hedge surrounding our little white cottage… so thankful for all of you my dear readers who suggested I should keep it and opened up my eyes with the wonderful idea of shrub lighting for Christmas…
