Finishing up...

05-08-14

I spent half of my day Thursday cleaning up the emptied rented house—big and old and terribly dusty after being inhabited for a month. When can I stop? I mean I'm really overworking myself and I know it… I need a chill out session over some favorite books and magazines and a cinnamon dolce latte at Barnes and Nobles. Soon.

Went back the following morning to finish cleaning. Everything is now spick-n-span at the rented house, and my husband and some of his co-workers friends came again to help carrying off the rest of the things we had in the backyard. The job is all done, but I will have to get rid of a lot of the things I brought from the garden at the house in the roses.

It makes me sad, and guilty… seeing all the things I brought, which I won’t ever use again, and guilty, because I should have left them just where they had belong… a garden like no other.

After I cleaned the house and said my goodbyes and thank yous I brought with me buckets and buckets full of roses…

Yesterday I brought home with me a few beauties to plant around the pond.  Lowe's had marked their pink hydrangeas down to $5.00.  I couldn’t pass the opportunity, and brought three pots with me.  Only wish I would have bought more.  But I don’t have a place shady enough for them.  The day before yesterday I had gotten two “Endless Summer” hydrangeas for the front porch.  Yes, I’m going to follow my heart and live my dream.  I am planting my blue Endless Summer hydrangeas in the front beds.  I shall try and see what happens.  If they don’t do well, I will remove them… but maybe… maybe they will thrive?  I’m so hoping they will!

I was going to wait until tomorrow morning to start planting around the pond; early in the morning when the sun is mellow and the air deliciously cool.  That’s one thing I love about this place.  Even in the heat of summer, mornings are always cool and wonderful and the sun is bright but placid and magnificent... but then, yesterday afternoon we had some torrential rains.  It was the perfect moment to work this awful soil.  So I waited for the light warm rain that followed and planted most of my plants… soaking wet and covered in soil up to my lashes, and exhausted, but fulfilled.

And the greenery that thrives outside our dining room windows? Oh Barbara, it’s a wonderful paradise of wild living things and an aviary out there, and a rabbit’s den and a kitty’s magical garden. I have so much to share about it, but I’m waiting for the right moment…

Right at nightfall everything changes out in the greenery. I’ve never seemed such darkness… city lights don’t come this far… darkness envelops silence, and silence lets the night creatures out; their taunting songs filing the night with charm and mystery and stories untold.. Things move out there in the dark, and make strange noises, and trees sway and embrace each other under the blackest of nights… I just love it.

  1. all is wonderful...

you have accomplished so, so, so much...

    but....

i keep hearing your say that you are exhausted. and that you are in need of some down time.

    please!

    please!

    please!

listen to your body. everything doesn't need to be done, today. lovely time stretches out before you. lovely time to tweak this and plant that and make everything, your own.

    please!

don't tire yourself out. and "go down in a heap." being exhausted, is a *good* way, to pick up a bug or two. and end up, flat on your back. how much can you accomplish, if this happens?

please take a couple of days off. totally offffff. sit back and drink in the joys which surround you.

    please...

    please...

    please...

    gentle hugs,
    tessa~

  2. You are still in the house in the roses, only now they are inside....Heaven to be surrounded by all the beauty, like living in s flower shop. I stopped in Ralphs yesterday to get cat food and they have a nice flower section, but now preceding Mothers Day, it was amazing. So many beautiful flowers of all kinds. I wanted to buy them all and bring them home.
Oh don't get rid of your garden things, you will eventually find a place for them. Its hard to tell how big your yard is, but there is always a place for one more thing in the garden.
I can relate to that go, go, gotta get it done. Just one more thing and I will stop trait. I have always been like that at work and in my personal life, but time made me slow down and I suspect you will know when it's time to take a break and sit back to admire all you have accomplished. WHICH IS ALOT...
Something that would be perfect for your back garden...they are sold here at Home Depot and QVC and are called a Bliss light.and if ever something had your name all over it. this does....You want a to add to the night time magic in your garden, I guarantee this will do it...It throws hundreds of tiny lights of blue or green everywhere. not bright lights, but fairy light.
    Enjoy your Mothers Day

    1. You're so right Sherry... I know I will regret giving my little garden treasures away later... it had happened more than once before and then I'd say why did I give this or that away? Thank you for making me re-think.

  3. Your little white cottage is lovely and you have accomplished so much in a little time. Take your time and smell the roses. I also love hydrangea's and my 10 bushes are now just starting to bloom - my white on is over 6' tall and so big.
Stop by and see my latest post of a Garden Tour and see some of my roses in the back yard.
    Have a wonderful Mothers Day.

  4. Dear Cielo, you are in a rush to get things just right which is understandable, but please don,t let your things go before you,ve had time to get used to your new surroundings. As the garden improves with your hard work I am sure these things will be more at home just as they were in the garden at the house in the roses. Love, Rachel.

  8. You’re so lucky you found hydrangeas at lower price! Anyway, I don’t think your Endless Summer will die shortly in your front bed. The plant’s life can last longer, based on how they were maintained by the growers. Just keep taking care of them. They will thrive, trust me!
