Around here

Our little world has finally started to woken up from its winter slumber.  The subtle changes already taking place all around us are almost unnoticeable, but to the curious eye of the Nature lover, life manifests itself loudly in more than one way.

The nippiness hanging from frosty mornings has mellowed down, and now that it is warmer, little buds of leaves are filling up thin, naked branches.  The orange-breasted robins whose songs ring out like a cheerful "spring is in the air"… "spring is in the air" soar the airs in a more joyful fluttering of wings, while I just look around and marvel and look and marvel some more at everything I see and hear.

Spring is a miraculous thing, doesn't it.  Little do we know that beneath the apparent 'death' in the garden of Nature, life stirs in preparation for a grand rebirth.

As I walk throughout the garden, I look for signs of life everywhere wondering what might had survived the winter and what did not...

I haven't seen the lovely hostas' heads pushing through the softened ground yet.  And this worriers me, because I should have seen some signs of life in them by now.  I wonder if the bulbs have rotten over the winter with all the rain we're having this wet year.

The crepe myrtles, in which I have put so much trust and love remain lifeless looking too.  Not a single shoot to be seen and their trunks and branches are still looking rather dark from all the fungus that plagued them over the summer, last year.  One have to wonder if these lovely things will come back again to grace the garden or if I will have to take them out for good.  I must wait.

The 'wild fields' that it is our garden outside its beds, on the other hand, are alive with wildflowers and weeds that I desperately keep pulling out while they re-grow right back as I move along the garden.  So it seems.

White clover, wild onions, wild garlic, Purslane that it has been present in many ancient cuisines all over the world for thousands of years, but I simply hate seeing in my garden, creeping Charlie and clover... clover clover growing everywhere!  Should I just stop worrying about them and let them be?  Wild violets are probably the best of the bunch in terms of appearance amongst so many weeds growing around here…

There's so much activity and strange noises coming from the woods these days too.

I suppose it must be the thrashers foraging for food and the rabbits scurrying through foliage and bramble.  Birds must be busy too building their nest now that the days are beginning to get warmer and longer.  But sometimes, I just have to stop what I'm doing, really pay attention to my surroundings, and wonder... There is an old deep magic in these woods that seeps into my bones.

And in the house…  I'm in the 'pastels' mood these day.  You?

I have this feeling there's something in the air that's driving us soul sisters towards that direction…

Being that our big square table it usually is the 'mantle' sorts of speak, or the place I love to decorate according to seasons and mood, that's where I'm displaying my pastels these days...

I love the combination of the light/dark pink tablecloths with the b/w carpet on floor...
Such contrast!

Are you seeing any sign of spring yet in your part of the world?

Have a lovely day, friend!

Cielo

  5. I live in northern IL and am just now seeing signs of spring. Lilies and daffodils are pushing their way out of the soil and my lilac bush is budding. Robins are back and are hopping around all over the place. But, that's about it! I absolutely adore your pink tablecloth with the black and white rug. It really adds the perfect amount of color and softness.

  6. I think it is a bit early for the hostas to start coming up. We have a lot of them and they all come back every year. I love the little violets when they are in bloom but they annoy me so much when they are trying to take over the flower beds.

We have so many things in bloom right now-red buds, Bradford pears. I noticed some dogwoods starting to bloom the other day. Spring is glorious here :)
