Remember the days blessings

Morning breezes are tossing the privet flowers, the new leaves on the hollies, glossy and smooth like jewels of leaves, laugh in sunshine.  Petals are showering the ground with amusement and joyfulness...

This is  the month of love and what not to love in the garden....  spring exposes the soul, it brings forth the strength in you, that quality of perseverance which keeps you going and impels you to continue, to try again and again; to not give up...

It's not easy--this love and need to surround my soul with Nature.  It requires strength and the magic of vision--trying to conquer the wild nature of the South where rot organisms proliferate and where plants disappear, not because of lack of cold hardiness but because they rot in the ground, and summer temperatures and humidity are a disadvantage to perennially.  Then, there's the amount of insects and bug eating plants, plant deceases, black spots, fungus, etc.... there is no doubt that gardening  in the South is far more challenging that gardening in the North.

There are times when even I have to question how I do it?  And why do I do it?--working the land tirelessly, creating beauty from bareness and unpleasantness just to bring forth beauty, unwind it spread it dress in it... going against Nature in the creative enthusiasm of a girl who won't stop because.... well, here's why....

When I lived North in the house in the roses I had always envied Southern gardeners, without realizing what a struggle warm zone gardening could be.

More challenging, but equally wonderful.  After all, a garden is always a series of losses set against a few triumphs, but it's all worth it...  like life itself.

Thanks for being here friends!

  1. Yes you've discovered some of the downsides of living in a warmer spot. If I had first started gardening in Texas where we have fire ants, I wouldn't have the love that I have for it. It's me against the fire ants many days but I wouldn't trade my flowers or dirt for anything. :) It's awesome that so many plants are perennial in a warmer climate.

  3. Thank you for visiting me and your lovely comments! :-)
Yes, gardening in the south is not easy, the plants don't like the relentless heat especially in summer and especially down here in Florida. How to have lush flowers? Is taking years to learn what works and what doesnt but we don't give up.
We do it because we need to make magic. We need to work with Life. We need to create with Mother, to help her enshroud the land with the kind of beauty that will caress our souls. And it always pays off in eternal joy.

  4. Hello Cielo, I am not sure if my previous comment posted - I have loved living in the northern climate for the gorgeous Lilacs and Peonies - here in the south there is an adjustment - but there are flowering bushes and plants that thrive here - I hope you enjoy your summer and find many more blessings - I will be featuring your post in this week's A Return to Loveliness,
    Kathy
